My Studio

As an artist, my media is often determined by my idea. Whatever is appropriate to express or interpret a creative thought can be used as my media. I favor the hands-on and textural forms that clay provides. Clay suits my personality in its experimental nature and its ability to facilitate change and new directions while the artwork is in progress. I believe this is where true creativity lives, and this is when the media engages the artist in direct conversation. Clay is also changeable, unpredictable and demands faith, which is similar to life.

Where do I find my inspiration? Perhaps, from the simple geometry of nature. I am moved by architecture, bridges, and the forms of man-made mechanical objects. I love the passionate colors and rich paint textures of Van Gogh as well as the austere bottle still life paintings of Giorgio Morandi.

My sculptural work is often based on abstracted forms found in both the man-made environment as well as the natural world. My pottery is often quirky, eclectic and might even be what I call "Dysfunctional". It is designed to make you think and sometimes laugh!
